ABOUT NHA TRANG

The coastal city Nha Trang is the capital of Khánh Hòa province on the South Central Coast of Vietnam. It is well known for its pristine beaches and excellent scuba diving and is fast becoming a popular destination for international tourists, attracting large numbers of backpackers as well as more affluent travelers on the Southeast Asia circuit.

Historically, the city was known as Kauthara under the Champa. Since then, the population has vastly increased. Currently, the city has about 300,000 inhabitants, a number that is projected to increase to 500,000 or 600,000 by the year 2020.

Nha Trang is one of the most important tourist hubs of Vietnam, thanks to its beautiful beaches with fine, clean sands, clear ocean water, and mild temperatures year-round. A stopover for annual yacht races starting in Hong Kong, the city has welcomed many five-star sea cruises and has earned the undisputed title as the beach capital of Vietnam.

Besides long stretches of sand lapped by crystal clear waters, it is dotted with many islands; each with its own distinct character. The turquoise waters play host to teeming marine life, and snorkeling and scuba diving are perennial favorites. This beach town also features a vibrant nightlife.

Lying off Nha Trang is Bamboo Island, operated by the Sofitel Vinpearl Group. There is now a motorized chair lift system, reportedly the longest in the world, linking the mainland to the five-star resort and theme park on Bamboo Island.
